Manchester United and Liverpool have joined Manchester City in the race to sign Sevilla defender Diego Carlos this summer. [source-MEN]
Marca, via SportWitness, reports that Sevilla would be open to selling the Brazilian to help balance the books. His release clause sits at €75m and it’d be a big offer to match.
Carlos has enjoyed a wonderful season at Sevilla, catching the eye of Europe’s top teams, winning the Europa League and helping Sevilla earn a fourth-place finish in the league.
United’s competitors are big names in the business as well. Manchester City dominating under Pep Guardiola and Liverpool winning their first Premier League title last season.
Manchester City have already signed Nathan Ake from Bournemouth and are linked to Kalidou Koulibaly.
Whereas, Liverpool are confident with their squad and are looking to add depth and maybe a partner for their star player Virgil Van Dijk in the center of the defense.
Manchester United have been linked with defenders in the market as well. Their previous target, Gabriel Magalhaes for the position snubbed them to join Arsenal. Dayot Upamecano was linked too, however, he is happy to stay at RB Leipzig.
Solskjaer is ready to sell defenders from his side who do not have his confidence and a hunt for Harry Maguire’s partner could well be on.
Victor Lindelof has occupied that position, but criticism from all quarters with regards to his recent performances could press United to look elsewhere.
United have already signed Van De Beek from Ajax and are in talks to sign Jadon Sancho and Thiago Alcantara from Dortmund and Bayern respectively.
A defender should be the next priority for Solksjaer and a winner like Deigo Carlos could hit a home run.
