Manchester United team news and predictions ahead of the trip to Southampton

Manchester United

After a bright start to the 2021/22 Premier League season, Manchester United will be hoping to maintain that momentum when they visit St Mary’s on Sunday.

Most bookmakers, including the best betting sites in Vietnam, have backed the visitors to win the game and maintain a 100% record in the league.

The Red Devils had a thumping victory over their long-time rivals Leeds United. A dominant performance by the United earned them a 5-1 win.

By contrast, the Saints were defeated by Everton, who came from behind to win the match 3-1.

The last time these two faced, United had recorded an emphatic win where they demolished Southampton 9-0, equalling the Premier League record.

Manchester United team news

United will be without Marcus Rashford, Alex Telles and Dean Henderson.

Rashford is out for at least a month and Telles is still recovering from the injury he picked during pre-season.

Henderson has returned after recovering from COVID-19, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that he felt tired after training, and further checks are required.

Phil Jones is also unlikely to play despite featuring in the behind closed doors friendly against Burnley.

On the positive side, Edinson Cavani has returned to training and will potentially be involved on Sunday.

The club’s latest addition, Raphael Varane, will travel with the squad but is unlikely to partner Harry Maguire.

Jadon Sancho is in contention to start for United. He will replace Daniel James, who struggled last time out.

RR’s Predicted line-up and scoreline

Solksjaer is expected to make just one change, with Sancho replacing James.

The manager will continue with his favourite formation of 4-2-3-1.

Goalkeeper: David De Gea.

Defenders: Aaron Wan Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw.

Midfielders: Scott McTominay, Fred, Bruno Fernandes.

Forwards: Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood, Paul Pogba.

United are clear favourites heading into the match, but Southampton will definitely test the visitors.

Prediction: Southampton 1-3 Manchester United.
