According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Thiago is going to join Premier League, Champions Liverpool. He joins Liverpool on a 4 year deal.
Thiago has been one of the best midfielders in the world for quite some time. His performances last season to win Bayern Munich the treble had earned him rave reviews.
The Spanish maestro is leaving Bayern for a new challenge, which is now the Premier League. Thiago had a year left in his Bayern contract. This is why Bayern insisted on a fee for the Spaniard as they did not want him to leave for free.
Liverpool have beaten Barcelona and Manchester United for Thiago’s signature.
Fabrizio Romano also states that Liverpool completely changed their stance to get this deal done. The Reds were earlier reluctant to spend an amount of €30m on a player they thought to be injury-prone. Liverpool were also confident of signing him in January for free.
The Reds were also dependent on Wijnaldum moving to Barcelona to fund this transfer but changed their mind regarding this.
Romano also talked about United’s viewpoint regarding Thiago.
According to Romano, the Red Devils did not contact Bayern Munich directly and only spoke to his agent. Their interest in the Spanish midfielder also waned following the arrival of Donny Van De Beek from Ajax Amsterdam.
Thiago’s decision to join United’s rivals is not a single occurrence. In this summer the Red’s have lost Gabriel, Sergio Reguilon, Ben Chilwell and Ferran Torres to their English competitors.
United can only hope that the coming season does not adversely affect their campaign due to their inefficiency in the transfer market.
