Jadon Sancho’s transfer saga has taken another drastic turn as Borussia Dortmund director Sebastian Kehl expects that the England international will stay at the German club for at least another year.
Kehl’s comments come a week after Dortmund coach Lucien Favre expressed his desire to keep Sancho in his squad.
Speaking to the reporters during Dortmund’s virtual tour of Asia, Kehl said: “Jadon is happy to stay. He has a contract until 2023. I see him on the pitch and he is very happy. Everyone is very happy to have him. He is going to be here for at least one more season.”
“This team is the best we had. We have a mixture of very good, young, and mature players.”
“We tried to develop the team in the last few years. Hopefully we can win titles in the next season because titles are what matter the most in the end.”
Moreover, reports have suggested that Sancho’s teammates at Dortmund also believe that he’s going to stay. Daily Mail quoted Dortmund midfielder Thomas Delaney saying – “Jadon will be playing for us. He is a great talent. I hope he will help us win great things. I embrace him with open arms.”
Goalkeeper Roman Burki revealed last week to the German outlet Kicker that Sancho is happy at Signal Iduna Park.
“I don’t believe Jadon is sad that he will continue with Borussia Dortmund. He comes to training with a smile on his face and is happy to be with us.”
Manchester United are yet to comment on the situation despite a series of events concerning Sancho’s transfer. According to Fabrizio Romano, United could still secure the services of Sancho paying €120m upfront. Up until now, Dortmund are far ahead of United and have occupied a pole position in negotiations. It won’t be a surprise if United fails to sign Sancho.
