Manchester United submit proposal to sign Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella on loan

Manchester United have submitted a proposal to sign Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella on loan, reports The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

The Red Devils like the Spain international and think he is perfect for their style of play under manager Erik ten Hag.

Chelsea are open to doing a deal with Man United and both clubs have been in talks over the terms of a potential move.

The Old Trafford club are desperate to sign a new left-back on loan with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both currently injured.

Alvaro Fernandez, 20, is their only other recognised primary left-back, with the versatile Diogo Dalot deployed in the position against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Man United are convinced that Cucurella is an upgrade on the current options available, and while new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is not a huge fan, the 25-year-old proved his quality while at Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Barcelona academy graduate would love to prove himself at a big club and could be open to joining the Red Devils on a temporary deal.

It is unknown whether the loan deal will be a straight one or come with an obligation or option to buy, but Cucurella will be keen to impress if the move goes through in order to secure a permanent deal at the end of the season.

The Spaniard loves to tackle and is solid in one-on-one situations against opposition attackers, and having such a player on the left wing and Aaron Wan-Bissaka on the right will add more steel to the Man United defence.

Cucurella is also very comfortable in holding on to the ball and passing due to his La Masia background, and he is equally a threat in the final third.

He can also play as a centre-back, and such versatility is a quality Ten Hag loves in his full-backs.
