Manchester United starlet Joe Hugill has joined Burton Albion on loan for the rest of the 2023/24 season, according to the club’s official website.
Hugill recently signed a new contract until 2026, with the option of an additional year.
The 20-year-old striker has yet to make his senior debut for the club. He has scored eight times in 12 games in the Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy.
The League One club announced that Hugill will go straight into the squad for Monday night’s clash at Derby County.
Joe Hugill has a chance to prove his worth
Man United would love to see Hugill shine with the Brewers. A striker is an expensive commodity in today’s transfer market.
They signed Rasmus Hojlund in a big-money move last summer. The Denmark international has immense potential but needs more time to adapt to the Premier League.
Anthony Martial has had plenty of time to shine at United but has failed to revive his career under Erik Ten Hag. He has scored just once in the English top flight this term.
The Red Devils have not triggered the extension clause in his deal, which is set to expire in six months.
The Dutchman has shown that he is ready to bank upon the youngsters. His mantra is clear: ‘if you are good enough, you are old enough’.
If Hugill can have a great scoring run with Albion, Ten Hag might consider keeping him with the senior team next season.
The young striker is the fourth player to leave Old Trafford this month.
Donny van de Beek and Jadon Sancho have completed their respective loan transfers.
Sergio Reguilon has been sent back to Tottenham Hotspur, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia expected to return soon.
