Manchester United academy graduate Joe Hugill is reportedly set to sign a new contract at the club, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The Red Devils will send him out on loan next month in a bid to get regular game-time at the top level.
Hugill has emerged as one of the brightest talents in the Man United academy and has impressed Erik ten Hag.
He is yet to make his senior debut but was named in the matchday squad for the Champions League games against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.
Hugill also received a call-up to the senior team in United’s recent trip to Everton.
The 20-year-old has been in fine form in the Premier League 2 this season, bagging seven goals and an assist in nine matches.
Hugill rose to prominence when he scored four goals against Liverpool in January 2021.
A loan move in January will offer the starlet an opportunity to make an impression.
He needs to make enormous strides during his loan tenure so that Ten Hag can involve him with the United senior team.
The only reason his potential loan move can fall through is the lack of much-needed depth in attack.
Rasmus Hojlund and Anthony Martial are the only two centre-forwards available to Ten Hag.
Hojlund broke his Premier League duck after 15 appearances against Aston Villa in midweek.
Martial has also scored only once in 13 appearances. He remains anonymous for a large period in games and hardly presses from the front.
However, relying on Hugill for a back-up role is a big ask. At this stage of his career, it is more important for him to get regular minutes under his belt.
Hannibal is another academy graduate who could be loaned out next month.
