Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is reportedly prepared to sign a new contract after being impressed with the progress made by the club over the past few months.
Pogba’s current deal with United is due to expire at the end of the 2020/21 season but the club have the option to extend his stay for another 12 months, if required.
Over the past year, the midfielder has been frequently linked with a move away from Old Trafford due to a contract standoff but The Mail claims that he has now given the go-ahead to sign an improved deal.
Pogba has been restricted to just seven Premier League appearances during the current campaign where he has been hampered by a series of ankle injuries.
The Frenchman is currently out of contention following the ankle surgery in January but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that the midfielder will return to regular training this week.
In the absence of Pogba, United lacked a creative midfield presence during the first half of the campaign and that contributed to the limited service for the club’s forwards.
This has, however, improved with the winter arrival of Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese has already registered three goals and two assists in the league and it will be exciting to watch him combine with Pogba during the final months of the season.
Pogba is currently on a weekly wage of £300,000. The Mail reports that the World Cup winner will receive at least a £100,000-a-week hike on the salary, once he puts pen-to-paper on a new long-term contract.
