Manchester United Star becomes Latest to Urge Safety Concerns

Jesse Lingard has become the latest player to express his concerns about football being brought back too soon. The Premier League has been keen to get going for a while. Elsewhere across Europe, football has actually resumed with Bundesliga being played behind closed doors and Spanish players returning to training ahead of a restart.

Yet, a number of Premier League stars have expressed their concern. The likes of Sergio Aguero and Troy Deeney have vocally expressed their concern, as a return back to football puts their families at great risk. Even former Manchester United star Gary Neville has voiced the same concerns.

Lingard says that safety should be the priority at a time when a vaccine seems a long way away, while there are signs of a second wave in different parts of the world. According to ESPN, Lingard said:

“I think it’s about taking the right steps and the right procedures, just to make sure that everyone is safe.

“We need to go back when it’s safe. Obviously, everyone is missing football.”

The Premier League is keen to restart due to the significant losses that the league may have to incur if the TV commitments are not met. However, players have spent the best part of almost 2 months without proper training and there could be a string of matches in a short space of time to further increase the risk of spreading the virus.
