Manchester United stall contract talks with Dean Henderson as he is a step closer to leave the club

It is not a secret that Manchester United cannot go into the 2020-21 campaign with David de Gea, Dean Henderson and Sergio Romero as goalkeeping options. Both Henderson and Romero are too good to be second and third choice keepers respectively.

Earlier this month, Manchester United started talks with Henderson for a fresh new deal with a lucrative wage bump. The 23-year-old spent the past two seasons at Sheffield United producing series of superb performances every week.

Sheffield want to sign Henderson permanently but United aren’t willing to let the academy graduate go permanently. However, he only has a year left in his current deal with the Red Devils. The new deal proposed by United have no updates and the Daily Mail reports that he is likely to leave United on another loan deal to Sheffield.

Arsenal and Chelsea are in dire need of a goalkeeper and someone like Henderson will walk into their starting XI without any doubt. But, United won’t sell him to a direct rival.

However, his contract expires next season. If United are unable to find a way to make him commit to a longer deal, they should be looking to offload him this summer itself.

Henderson doesn’t wish to leave United and has previously said that its his dream to play at Old Trafford in a United jersey. Amid de Gea’s poor form and criticism surrounding him, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to find a creative solution to not lose Henderson and keep everyone happy.
