After almost half a decade of scattered football, James Rodriguez could just be in for a settled career in England. The Colombian superstar is being linked to a Manchester United move this summer. United want to strengthen their forward line and Real Madrid wants to offload and cash in on the 2014 Puskas Award winner.
Rodriguez’s contract expires next season and the Spanish champions are desperate to sell him.
Coming close to a transfer to Atletico Madrid last season, Manchester United, Arsenal, Everton and Wolves are all monitoring Rodriguez’s situation.
Real’s asking price is 23m. Despite the deflated transfer fee, Rodriguez’s £6.3million a year salary will be one to match. United could easily outbid others.
In June, Rodriguez revealed why he rejected to join Sir Alex Ferguson’s United in 2012.
“Yes I think there was some kind of talk there,” he told Rio Ferdinand’s ‘The Locker Room’. “My manager (agent) has a great relationship with the club, his name is Jorge Mendes.
“Well, we always dream of getting in a big club. Since I was a child I always admired Manchester, I always saw those teams with Rio together with Giggs and Scholes, there were a lot of prodigious players and I wanted to get there in that year. But it didn’t happen.
“I thought I had to play for a club that wasn’t so big. From there I went to France just before the World Cup and my plan was to go to the World Cup, have great participation there, score goals, reach a good level and from there play for a big club and then the Real Madrid thing happened.”
We all understand the charms when Real Madrid flirts with you. However, years later, the charm in gone.
Given his unsatisfactory spell at Bayern Munich and a one-year dry spell under Zidane, it is highly likely that the former Monaco man may have to accept a hefty cut in his wages.

This gives a lot of options to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to experiment with. If Jadon Sancho’s deal finally falls apart, United should look towards a cheaper alternative in James Rodriguez.
