Manchester United set to lose out on former £36m target to a Premier League club

Manchester United are set to lose another one of their former targets to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

According to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Wolves are very close to completing the deal for Semedo. They submitted a new bid for the right-back, which Barcelona are ready to accept.

Semedo is expected to replace Matt Doherty in the Wolves lineup. Doherty joined Tottenham earlier this summer.

Semedo joined Barcelona from Benfica in 2017. His performances at the Catalan club have earned him the interest of Man City, Man United and Wolves.

As per Transfermarkt, he is valued at £36m.

United were interested in bringing the Portuguese international to the Old Trafford earlier this summer. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was interested in bringing Semedo in to replace Diogo Dalot.

Though, the move never took place. Several reasons could have contributed to this decision which may include the coronavirus crisis, Aaron Wan Bissaka’s form and OGS’s confidence in Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

United have lost several of their targets to rival clubs this summer. Notable targets include Sergio Reguilon, Gareth Bale to Tottenham and Thiago Alcantara to Liverpool.

Now, Nelson Semedo is going to be another addition to this curiously expanding list.
