Manchester United are working on a deal to sign Derby County teenage goalkeeper Charlie Hardy and are in the process of wrapping up the move, according to the Sun.
The 16-year-old England youth international is going through formalities to complete a move to join the Red Devils.
Hardy has been a regular for the Derby under-18s and can move to another English club at any time over the course of the season as he is a category one scholar.
Man United are reportedly looking to sign another goalkeeper next year to bolster their first-team options despite the arrival of Belgian Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on summer transfer deadline day.
However, they are also preparing for the future and Hardy will be joining their academy ranks in the coming days.
Given how the teenage sensation has featured for teams with older players, it would not surprise many if he starts training with the Man United senior team sooner rather than later.
Hardy was named on the bench against Man United under-18s when he was 14 before making his debut for Derby under-18s at the age of 15.
He made his England under-15 debut last year and has since played five times for the England under-16s.
Hardy could soon force his way into the Man United under-19s and could be playing for their under-21s very soon given his huge potential.
The Red Devils have been struggling in the goalkeeping department for a while and are hoping Lammens will be the answer to their woes.
Hardy will also hope to become a first-team regular going forward and it will be intriguing to see if that happens.
Dean Henderson is the last Man United academy graduate to have come close to forcing his way into the first-team in recent years.
Tom Heaton spent years in the academy before going on to make a great career for himself elsewhere, and Hardy could learn a thing or two from the veteran.
