Manchester United sent scouts to watch the Braga versus Vizela game on Friday evening, according to SC Braga News.
Braga goalkeeper Matheus Magalhaes revealed last month that the Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag spoke with him about a move in the summer.
The 31-year-old remained with the Portuguese club and Scouts in Attendance claims he could have been the target of the Man United scouts.
The Red Devils wanted to sign two goalkeepers after Martin Dubravka returned to Newcastle United following his loan deal and David de Gea was released.
They signed Andre Onana from Inter Milan while Altay Bayindir joined from Fenerbahce.
The Cameroon international has failed to impress and is expected to be on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations next month.
It remains to be seen whether Man United will sign a new goalkeeper with Bayindir expected to get his chance to impress in Onana’s absence.
Matheus has plenty of experience and Ten Hag could be looking to rekindle interest in recruiting his services during the January transfer window or next summer.
The Brazilian is also comfortable with the ball at his feet, can play long passes and has brilliant reflexes.
He has been a mainstay in the Braga team since joining from America Mineiro in 2014, featuring in 306 games. Whether he will be keen to move to a club where he will not be guaranteed the starting berth is unclear.
Onana needs to step up and cut out the frequent errors, and Ten Hag could be forced to make changes in the goalkeeping department if he does not improve.
