Manchester United are reportedly facing the prospect of losing Tahith Chong on a free transfer in the summer after failing to find the breakthrough in the contract negotiations.
The club graduate has struggled to secure regular playing time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this term and he has been managed under 400 minutes of first-team football in all competitions.
According to The Athletic, the Red Devils have no plans of meeting the player’s salary demands estimated to be around £35,000-a-week and the 20-year-old appears set to leave on a Bosman at the end of the season.
Just 18 months ago, Chong was widely regarded as the most promising player in the youth ranks and there was the anticipation that he would become a regular with the first-team in the near future.
That has, however, not been the case and during the current campaign, the likes of Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams, who are much younger than him, have made the breakthrough with regular gametime.
Chong has no doubt impressed for the development side in Premier League 2 but he has not been able to convince the club that he can prove his worth with the senior squad in the long run.
Chong is likely to remain with the club for the rest of the season but he could thereafter make a possible move to the Serie A with Inter Milan understood to have held negotiations with his representative already.
