Manchester United have reportedly revived their interest in signing Portuguese playmaker Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon.
The Red Devils are on the search for a creative midfielder in the January transfer window and they appear likely to miss out on their prime targets due to different reasons.
Christian Eriksen from Tottenham Hotspur seems on the cusp of making the move to Inter Milan while Leicester City are reluctant to accept any offers for James Maddison at the midway stage of the campaign.
As a result, United are understood to have started an extended scouting mission in Portugal and the talent-spotters are expected to watch the upcoming games of Benfica, Porto and Sporting Lisbon, as per Goal.com.
The same outlet claims that the Red Devils are likely to revive their transfer pursuit of Fernandes after they were put off from making an approach during last summer’s transfer window.
Fernandes was regularly linked with United prior to the start of the season but a deal did not quite materialise with concerns regarding his overall passing success rate (75 percent on average, whoscored).
Still, the Portuguese has proved that he can remain a creative force in the final third and in the current season, he has contributed 11 goals and 10 assists in the Primeira Liga and Europa League games combined.
With the tougher competition in the Premier League, the 25-year-old may struggle to replicate the same performance levels but he is definitely better than the options at hand for United this season.
The trio of Andreas Pereira, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata have failed to make regular goalscoring contributions from the number 10 role and they have managed a combined tally of one goal and three assists in the league.
