Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing out of favour Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale.[source-Mirror]
The Red Devils have previously been linked with the 31-year-old, and now Marca claims they have rekindled their interest.
Gareth Bale fell out of favour at the Spanish capital and has not played first-team football under Zinedine Zidane since the restart.
The Welsh International’s antics have also drawn flack; his commitment to the club is also in question.
Marca also states that Bale is set for showdown talks with Real boss Zinedine Zidane to discuss his future, but that ultimately the La Liga giants hope United will come up with the cash to put the saga to bed once and for all.
Former Real Madrid president Ramos Calderon also confirmed that last summer the club received an £89m bid for Bale from an unnamed Premier League side.
He talked to Talksport and said: “I know on the last day of the transfer window last year there was an offer from the Premier League.
“They offered €100m [£89m] and Real Madrid turned down that offer because they thought Bale would be a player in their side”.
He added: “I’m not allowed to say the name, though I do know the name of the club.
Manchester United’s pursuit of no1 target Jadon Sancho has stalled. The club also had a bid for Juventus winger Douglas Costa rejected.
With the Welsh international’s future at Madrid all but done, it may be the best time for the winger to come back to England.
Man United have competition for the Welshman’s signature in the form of English rivals Tottenham. Former United manager Jose Mourinho is about to undertake his first season at Tottenham and wants Bale to headline it. But According to Daily Mail, Tottenham’s challenge is not significant as club chairman Daniel Levy has no money.
United will have to come up to a fee close to £89million for the winger and his wages can also prove to be a big stumbling block.
The Red Devils tried to sign Bale before his switch to Real Madrid and now it would be worth watching to see whether this move becomes a reality.
