Manchester United are reportedly planning to step up their pursuit of Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.
Grealish has impressed since the Villains’ return to the top-flight this term and he has netted seven goals and registered six assists from 26 league appearances.
According to The Sun, the club have been keeping a close eye on the playmaker’s progress over the past one-and-a-half years and they are now likely to make an attempt to sign him.
At present, the Villains are reluctant to accept anything less than £70m for Grealish’s sale but it is claimed that they could allow his departure for £50m, if they fail to beat the drop.
United have improved their creativity in the final third after the winter arrival of Bruno Fernandes and the return of Paul Pogba following his ankle surgery, should bring about a further improvement on the chances created.
Still, there are doubts over the long-term future of Pogba, who has been linked with both Juventus and Real Madrid and United could sanction his exit when the transfer window reopens.
In this case, Grealish, 24, could be an ideal replacement for the Frenchman, given he has the preference to play in a more central midfield role despite starring on the left wing for the Villains this season.
Grealish’s versatility of playing anywhere across the attack or the midfield has definitely got the attention of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and he could have a long-term career at Old Trafford, suppose he makes the move.
