Manchester United are reportedly planning to negotiate a new contract with midfielder Paul Pogba after extending the deals of goalkeeper David de Gea and defender Victor Lindelof earlier this month.
The Frenchman was regularly linked with a move to Real Madrid during the summer transfer window but a move did not materialise with United holding no interest in parting ways with the midfielder.
Still, there remains the uncertainty regarding the midfielder’s future with the club and ESPN reports that the Red Devils are keen to sort out the same by finalising a new and improved deal with the Frenchman.
Pogba currently has less than two years remaining on his existing contract with the Red Devils but the club have the option of a 12-month extension clause which can be triggered at their own will.
As such, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side have plenty of time remaining to negotiate a new deal but they are aiming to open discussions with the player’s agent at the earliest in order to find the breakthrough.
Pogba has not produced his best since the beginning of the season and he is presently on the sidelines after the ankle problem picked up during the away game at Southampton before the international break.
The 26-year-old has played in a slightly deeper role this term compared to the previous campaign but a section of the fans are still concerned with the inconsistency of the midfielder’s performances on the field.
