Manchester United propose to sign experienced striker in Romelu Lukaku’s move to Juventus

Manchester United have reportedly proposed to land the signature of Mario Mandzukic in a potential deal involving Romelu Lukaku heading to Juventus this summer.

The Red Devils have been in negotiations with the Bianconeri regarding a swap agreement involving Lukaku and Dybala, but the latter has yet to show any intention of accepting to the proposal.

As such, Sky Sports News claims that the Mancunian giants are looking into a deal for Mandzukic instead, although that would mean that the Bianconeri will have to pay an additional fee for Lukaku’s move to Turin.

Mandzukic has been regularly associated with the club during the tenure under Jose Mourinho and that made sense, considering the Portuguese wanted a target man to compete with Lukaku upfront.

However, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, there has been a change in the system with more mobile players and high-pressing involved and the 33-year-old may not perfectly fit into the plans as he is a traditional striker.

Still, Solskjaer may be looking at Mandzukic as an option, who can provide the physical presence in the frontline while he is an incredibly hard-worker and has the tendency to find the net in the big matches.

United have made just two signings in Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka during the transfer window, but they are currently on the cusp of landing Harry Maguire from Leicester City for £85m.

Solskjaer’s team played their final pre-season friendly against AC Milan at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff tomorrow. Thereafter, they will get down to real business with the league opener at home against Chelsea on August 11.
