Manchester United prepared to move for £40m-rated striker amid Romelu Lukaku exit talk

Manchester United are reportedly considering a move to sign French striker Moussa Dembele from Lyon amid the speculation surrounding the future of Romelu Lukaku.

The Red Devils have recently excluded Lukaku from their travelling squad for the Oslo friendly against Kristiansund and it has been reported by ESPN that both Inter Milan and Juventus are in the running to land his signature.

Amidst this, it appears that the club are lining up a potential replacement and French outlet L’Equipe via M.E.N claims that Dembele has been earmarked as the prime target to reinforce the centre-forward department.

It is further stated that the 23-year-old won’t come on the cheap and Lyon are set to demand in excess of £40m for the forward, who contributed 20 goals and four assists during his debut campaign in French football last term.

In pre-season, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have been regularly utilised by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the striker’s role, and that may not be sufficient for a grueling season ahead, particularly if Lukaku heads through the exit door.

Club graduate Mason Greenwood and Alexis Sanchez are the other options, who can slot into the centre-forward position, but the former remains untested in the league while the latter has barely found success since joining the club 18 months ago.

As such, Dembele seems to have emerged on the club’s radar and it remains to be seen whether a deal materialises following Lukaku’s anticipated switch to the Serie A. Dembele was recently in action for Lyon against Arsenal in the Emirates Cup, where he grabbed a sublime a second-half brace in a 2-1 triumph.
