Manchester United players are desperate for Ruud van Nistelrooy to be included in Ruben Amorim’s backroom staff, according to the Sun.
The Dutchman was named interim manager after Erik ten Hag was sacked on Monday, and he has expressed a desire to remain at the club after Amorim takes over.
Van Nistelrooy joined Ten Hag as an assistant manager in the summer, and the Man United players have grown close to him after he quickly formed a bond with them.
The former Red Devils star is easier to communicate with compared to his departed compatriot, and the playing staff have made their feelings clear internally that they want him to stay on.
However, the call could be Amorim’s, as he will be bringing his own coaches with him.
Van Nistelrooy will remain in charge when Man United take on Chelsea, PAOK Thessaloniki and Leicester City ahead of the international break later this month.
He will look to convince Amorim that he has something valuable to offer.
The 48-year-old got the players firing on all cylinders in their 5-2 victory over Leicester on Wednesday, and winning the next three games could help boost his chances of remaining at the club.
However, given that most managers love to work only with their already trusted allies when they move to a new club, Amorim may not be keen on having Van Nistelrooy as part of his backroom staff.
