Manchester United plan face-to-face talks with David De Gea

Manchester United are planning face-to-face discussions with goalkeeper David De Gea as he is set to become a free agent tonight, according to Chris Wheeler.

De Gea will technically not be a Manchester United player after midnight.

He is getting married this weekend, and United do not want to interrupt his private time.

However, they will reopen dialogue with the legendary shot-stopper after this period.

De Gea has been a loyal servant to United, winning the coveted Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award four times in his 12-year-stay with the club.

Man Utd looking to move on from David De Gea

The 32-year-old won the Premier League Golden Glove last season but made some high-profile errors.

He is a great shot-stopper and has won plenty of matches for United over the years.

However, Erik ten Hag wants a goalkeeper who can help the team build the play from the back.

Andre Onana is heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford and would be an exceptional replacement for De Gea.

Onana is a modern sweeper-keeper who could be a game-changing signing for Man United.

He has the ability to play line-breaking passes through the middle. He is a highly confident player who does not mind coming out of his box to act as another defender.

Unfortunately for De Gea, the requirements of football at the elite level have changed.

It looks highly unlikely that De Gea will be United’s number one next season.

Even if the veteran signs a new contract with United, he will play second fiddle to Onana if the Inter Milan star joins the Red Devils.
