Manchester United faced a backlash when Christian Falk confirmed that rumours surrounding Dayot Upamecano and United are untrue. Upamecano’s recent comments on his near future made it clear that he is looking to stay at Leipzig for the coming season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to sign to compete with Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof. Chris Smalling is set to leave United too. Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones hardly qualify as depth.
However, fresh reports suggest that United are opening talks with Milan Skriniar. The 25-year-old Slovakian is one of the best defenders across Europe.
The Red Devils are not the only ones in pursuit of Skriniar’s signature. PSG are in strong contention after they let Thiago Silva depart the club and join Chelsea. Tottenham Hotspur are also monitoring Skriniar as Jan Vertonghen leaves the London club.
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho wanted to sign Skriniar back in 2018 when he was in charge of Manchester United. United’s £54million (€60m) bid fell short of Inter’s £81million (€90m) valuation of Skriniar. [source: TuttoMercatoWeb]
