Manchester United one step away from landing £67m midfield star

Manchester United are understood to be ‘one step away’ from securing the signature of midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio this summer, a report from Sport Mediaset has claimed.

The Red Devils parted ways with Ander Herrera at the expiry of his contract last month, and there are now said to be concerns over the future of Paul Pogba, who has been touted to make the move to Real Madrid.

Amidst this, Sport Mediaset has come up with a report suggesting that Lazio are prepared to discuss the transfer of Milinkovic-Savic to the Red Devils, and the Serbian may act as a direct replacement for Pogba.

The same publication adds that Lazio’s president Claudio Lotito is currently in London and he may take advantage of the visit to find out whether the Red Devils would match the £67m valuation for the midfielder.

Milinkovic-Savic was a hot midfield prospect before the 2018 World Cup after he contributed an impressive tally of 14 goals and six assists across all competitions for the Biancocelesti.

Last season, he could not find the same touch with just five goals and three assists to his name, but the 24-year-old nonetheless impressed with his strong physical presence in the centre of the park.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has recently gone with the trend of pursuing young players and a deal for Milinkovic-Savic should seem a no-brainer, considering he has plenty of big-game experience behind him.

Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are the club’s only signings of this summer’s transfer window.
