Manchester United make final contract offer to £200,000-a-week star

Manchester United have made a final contract offer to goalkeeper David de Gea, who has recently returned to pre-season training with the club, The Sun reports. The Spain international has just 12 months remaining on his current £200,000-a-week deal and this has brought up concerns regarding his future with United.

According to The Sun, the 28-year-old has rejoined his United teammates ahead of their pre-season tour and the club have taken the opportunity to offer him with a final ‘take it or leave it’ contract package worth £350,000-a-week.

De Gea has been in a contract standoff with United for more than a year and that has resulted from the desire to command a salary close to the £505,000-a-week (bonuses included), which Alexis Sanchez is currently earning at Old Trafford.

However, United have remained reluctant to come close to the shot-stopper’s demands, and they appear to have placed a final contract proposal after the previous £300,000-a-week offer was snubbed by the former Atletico Madrid graduate.

De Gea has been one of the most consistent performers for United since joining the club eight years ago, but last season was not his best as he was guilty of making a number of high-profile errors in both the domestic and European competitions.

Still, United have continued to give their full backing to the Spanish goalkeeper and it remains to be seen whether he is prepared to accept their latest proposal, which would tie him to the club for the next four years at the least.

Otherwise, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side may have a decision to make during the next few weeks, considering they face the risk of losing their keeper on a Bosman in a year’s time. As per The Sun, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are regarded as potential contenders to land his signature.
