Manchester United new boy Casemiro names Paul Scholes as his inspiration

New signing Casemiro has revealed that legendary midfielder Paul Scholes is his Manchester United United footballing idol.

Casemiro was unveiled to the United supporters before their clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday.

Erik ten Hag was eager to sign a new midfielder who can break up play and make progressive passes.

After flirting with Frenkie De Jong all summer, and deciding against signing Adrien Rabiot, United ended up splashing out £60 million on Casemiro.

In one of his first interviews with ManUtd.com, he revealed who were his inspirations when he was in the initial years of his football career.

He said, “Well, there are many players – I think there are players that you remember in your life.”

“So, in terms of idols in this position my idol growing up was always [Zinedine] Zidane, [but] here at Manchester United it was always Paul Scholes.”

The Brazil international didn’t stop there. He went on to highlight qualities which Scholes possessed.

He added, “He’s a player that was small but he got stuck in, he was a fighter, he gave everything on the pitch.”

“His passing over 50 to 70 metres was incredible. Manchester United have always [had] good players in that position.”

“The little guy was very good and what I loved about him when he played was that he was small but he went in hard and fair.”

Casemiro will become an integral part of this team

The former Real Madrid midfielder is a winner. He is known for reading the game well and high work rate.

He does not shy away from making tackles and will provide much-needed protection to United’s back four.

Scholes was an astonishing footballer in his time. He gave some unforgettable moments to United supporters to cherish.

The fans will be hoping that Casemiro earns similar success at Old Trafford.

After a horrific start to the season, United defeated Liverpool to register their first points of the season.

Their next test will come against Southampton at St Mary’s.

Although Casemiro has only just arrived, Ten Hag may be tempted to start him to gain more control in the centre of the park.
