Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Marcus Rashford has not suffered a serious injury and he could return to first-team action before the international break next month.
The England international picked up a groin problem during the 2-0 league loss at Manchester United last week but it appears that he has avoided a lengthy injury setback following a medical assessment.
Speaking prior to yesterday’s League Cup tie against Rochdale, Solskjaer said that the 21-year-old is still recovering from the injury but he could make a comeback in early October.
“Marcus, no he’s recovering. He’s not very, very bad. We hope to see him before the international break,” he was quoted as saying by Manchester United’s official website.
In the injury absence of Rashford and Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood was tasked with leading the line against Rochdale and the young graduate made his mark by bagging the opening goal.
Still, the overall performance from the team was far from appreciable and they only progressed to the League Cup fourth round on penalties after 16-year-old Luke Matheson levelled the scores.
Meanwhile, Martial was initially fancied to make a comeback during the Rochdale game and it remains to be seen whether the Frenchman can recover from a thigh concern for the Arsenal clash on Monday night.
Regardless of his return, Greenwood should most likely start upfront after bagging two goals in his past two appearances including the winner against Astana in the Europa League last week.
One major boost has been the return of midfielder Paul Pogba following his ankle problem but the Frenchman needs to come up with a much better performance after squandering a golden scoring chance last night.
