Manchester United have no plans of sanctioning the permanent sale of Dean Henderson when he returns from his season-long loan stint at Sheffield United, ESPN reports.
The 23-year-old shot-stopper is currently in his second-straight season on loan with the Blades and he has caught the eye with his quick reflexes as well as being comfortable with the ball at his feet.
According to ESPN, Henderson is set to return to Old Trafford at the end of the campaign but he is unlikely to play the deputy role to David de Gea next term.
The same publication cites that United won’t entertain any permanent bids for Henderson but they would be open to the prospect of loaning him out for yet another season.
Henderson has kept 10 clean sheets during the course of the top-flight campaign and that is only one less than Burnley’s Nick Pope, who is leading the Golden Glove race.
As such, he has definitely built his reputation from the ongoing loan spell at Bramall Lane and could have made his debut for England by now, if it was not for the coronavirus outbreak.
At present, it is quite clear that De Gea remains the number one choice in goal under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but things could change, should the Spaniard fail to find the consistency in his displays.
Over the past 18 months, De Gea has been guilty of making some poor errors between the sticks and he can’t afford to repeat something similar with Henderson waiting to pounce.
Henderson did make a glaring mistake in Sheffield’s 1-0 defeat to Liverpool earlier this season but he has managed to redeem himself with a number of top-quality performances.
The United graduate has a save percentage of 75 from 91 shots against him this term. His best showing came against Norwich City in March where he pulled off a stunning triple goal-line save.
