Manchester United make surprise addition in provisional squad against Arsenal

Manchester Evenings News (MEN) reports Manchester United have made a surprising addition to their matchday squad. 21-year-old goalkeeper Nathan Bishop makes a cut as United host Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Manchester United signed Bishop in January earlier this year from Southend United.

In absence of Matej Kovar, Bishop features regularly for the U23s. He made his debut in the under-21s EFL Trophy victory over Salford City in September.

Less than two months have passed by and he’s already making first team provisional squads.

When Red Devils’ goalkeeping coach Richard Hartis saw Bishop in United’s warm-weather training camp in Marbella, Spain, he described Bishop as:

“Ambitious, athletic, hard working, and mentally strong”

United have one of the best goalkeepers in David de Gea. Dean Henderson, his deputy, is one of the most promising ones in Europe.

Sergio Romero, on the other hand, is being mistreated by United. He’s one of the best keepers available in the market but United didn’t cut a loan deal with Everton on the deadline day. United should’ve made a deal but asked for more money – something Everton wasn’t ready to pay.

Lee Grant is also an option for the Red Devils. However, he’s made only two appearances for the club. United ended up losing both the games. He turns 38 in January and his contract expires in the summer.

Its hard to predict Bishop’s career trajectory but he’s making serious progress and earned Solskjaer’s trust.
