Manchester United looking to sign promising 22-year-old star for £20m: report

Manchester United are preparing a bid for Swansea City defender Joe Rodon following the recommendation of club legend Ryan Giggs, The Mirror reports.

The Red Devils have a number of central defensive options in their squad and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has preferred the combination of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof for the starting lineup.

Behind them, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are available to provide the support while Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo are currently away from the club on loan.

Still, Solskjaer appears keen on recruiting a young centre-back during the summer and it has recently been claimed that the Norwegian is not entirely convinced with the displays of Lindelof.

According to The Mirror, young centre-back Rodon has emerged as a transfer target for the club after the advice from Giggs, who handed the defender with his Wales debut last year.

The 22-year-old has made 21 appearances for the Swans in the Championship this term and he has caught the eye with his presence, having averaged 3.5 aerial duels and 5.4 clearances per game, as per whoscored.

Rodon also likes to have more possession of the ball and has good passing abilities, and it won’t come as a surprise, if United sign a second player from the Swans in the space of 12 months.

Daniel James, who was recommended by Giggs last summer, has proved a quality option for United in the wide attacking department this term and has bagged three goals and six assists in the league.

Rodon is valued at around £20m by The Mirror. United should recoup the entire fee from player sales. Smalling, Jones and Rojo have been tipped to leave Old Trafford this summer.
