Manchester United are reportedly looking into a loan move for Dalian Pro’s Salomon Rondon as they seek to land a new striker before the transfer deadline on Friday night.
The Red Devils have bolstered their first-team squad with the signing of Bruno Fernandes from Sporting but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still keen on recruiting a new striker to cover up the injury absence of Marcus Rashford.
Islam Slimani of Leicester City has been regularly mentioned by the media over the past few days but according to The Times, the club appear to have switched their attention towards a temporary deal for Rondon, who has previous Premier League experience with West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United.
Rondon spent the previous campaign on loan with the Magpies where he bagged a respectable tally of 11 Premier League goals and most of those strikes came during the backend of the season as the Tyneside outfit comfortably beat the drop.
When compared to Slimani, Rondon seems a better option for United, given he has been away from the English top-flight for just six months. Moreover, he has previously impressed with his hold-up play in the league and is capable of providing a goalscoring threat from set-pieces, which has been lacking with the Red Devils this term.
The Chinese Super League’s opening has been postponed from February 22 due to the Coronavirus epidemic and that seems to have paved the way for the Venezuelan to pursue a temporary return to Europe for the next five months.
