Manchester United looking into transfer deal for Serie A defender

Manchester United are understood to be looking at the prospect of signing Daniele Rugani from Juventus this summer amid their inability to find a breakthrough in terms of the negotiations for Leicester City’s Harry Maguire.

Maguire has been earmarked as the prime choice to strengthen the Red Devils’ central defence this summer, but so far, the club have failed to reach a transfer agreement as they are £20m short of the Foxes’ £90m valuation for the England international.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via The Mirror, the Red Devils are currently looking to finalise a swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku and Paulo Dybala, and they could use the negotiations to propose a potential move for Rugani.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been desperate to add a top-class central defender to the ranks ahead of next season and the recent injury setback for Eric Bailly is only expected to increase the urgency to bolster the department before the transfer deadline next week.

Still, a move for Rugani seems a potential risk, considering he has not received a regular run of games with the Bianconeri due to the competition for places while he has been prone to making the occasional error with his positioning with the limited playing time on offer.

At present, the negotiations for Maguire seem to be going nowhere with the Foxes adamant on their £90m price tag, but hopefully, United can seal the deal for the 26-year-old, given he would represent a more meaningful purchase than Rugani, who would require time to adapt to the league.
