Manchester United look forward to negotiate a new contract with Paul Pogba

When Manchester United signed Paul Pogba for a club-record fee of £90m, a lot was expected from the move dubbed by the media as “the return of the prodigal son.” The French superstar was let go of by the Red Devils for free when he was a teenager under Sir Alex Ferguson. The return was symbolic and one that came with its fair share of criticism, and four years at the club have yet to reach the heights one would have expected.

If there’s one word to sum up Pogba’s time at United it has got to be – ‘Turbulent’. From run-ins with the manager and ill-statements made by his agent Mino Raiola to single-handedly winning games for the team and being unplayable on his day.

One thing that has always been missing though is challenging for titles at the highest level; something he has been very vocal about wanting to achieve at this club. Towards the end of Jose Mourinho’s time as manager, a move away from Old Trafford seemed increasingly imminent with Real Madrid keeping tabs on Pogba. Mino Raiola made a series of statements previous summer as well as earlier this season using the club’s struggles and Pogba’s absence from action as reasons for the player having a ‘difficult time’.

Many such suggestions added to the generally underwhelming time at the club for the World Cup Winner has always made his stay look uncertain.

With a year left on his current contract and the club having an option to add a year, bids for Pogba seem to be subdued especially in the post-coronavirus market due to the financial strain caused as a result of the pandemic.

The tide seems to be changing as the arrival of the Bruno Fernandes breathing new life into the team has also seemed to have affected the stance of Paul Pogba and his future at the club fortunately in a positive manner. With United securing Champions League football next season and Pogba developing a strong midfield partnership with the Fernandes, the mood around Pogba’s entourage seems to have gotten better with talks of him wanting to stay at United floating around.

Reassurance coming in the form of an interview of Fabrizio Romano did with The United Stand, providing fans with some much-needed positivity regarding Pogba’s situation at United.

Paul is absolutely happy. He wants to stay. So soon they will talk with Mino Raiola to find a new contract” is what Romano answered when asked about contract negotiations concerning the French midfielder.

United are expected to announce a new five-year deal anytime soon as Pogba also hinted he his enjoying his new relationships with Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
