Manchester United have been credited with an interest in signing Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez, whose contract with the Spanish club expires at the end of next season.
The Red Devils are likely to make a few signings during the next transfer window and they are understood to prioritise the purchase of a right winger and a versatile midfielder.
According to Spanish outlet AS, Los Blancos are looking to part ways with Rodriguez during the summer and they are hoping to gain around £35m (€40m) from his departure.
The same publication suggests that United have taken an interest in the Colombian’s situation and they could propose a part-exchange deal whereby Paul Pogba could move to the Bernabeu.
Rodriguez has primarily played in a number 10 role and he would definitely struggle to command any gametime in that position at United due to the superb form of Bruno Fernandes, who arrived in January.
Elsewhere, the 28-year-old could probably slot into the right-wing, where United have lacked a regular goalscoring presence, but that would directly impact any move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.
As such, the deal appears unlikely to happen during the next transfer window unless Ole Gunnar Solskjaer surprisingly opts for the attacker’s experience instead of Sancho’s world-class potential.
Still, any move for Rodriguez could prove a gamble, considering he has been sidelined with as many as eight injuries during the past one-and-a-half years alone.
