Manchester United launch shocking interest in World Cup-winning veteran for free transfer

According to the Manchester Evening News, United are interested in Juventus midfielder Sami Khedri and are monitoring him.

Sami Khedira is well known for his crucial role in Real Madrid’s European and world domination under Carlo Ancelotti. He also won the World Cup in 2014 with Germany and has tons of experience.

Khedira has not had the most memorable of times at Juventus. He has often been a bit-part player in the squad. His injury problems have also kept him out of action for a long time. The German midfielder has also not enjoyed the confidence of both Juventus managers Massimiliano Allegri and Maurizio Sarri.

The recent appointment of former club legend Andrea Pirlo as the new Juventus manager is expected to spell doom for Khedira’s time at the Italian powerhouse.

According to the Goal, Khedira does not fit into Pirlo’s plans and can have his contract terminated a year earlier than it was set to expire. He is set to join teammate Gonzalo Higuain in that list.

Therefore, Khedira is available for free.

Pirlo is looking to revitalize Juventus’s midfield and has already brought Arthur and Weston Mckennie into the club.

Juventus are also looking to cut their costs to fund new transfers and getting Khedira’s wages off their books could save an amount around £5.5million.

It is still a mystery why Manchester United are enquiring about Sami Khedira. The club already has superstars Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba in their lineup. The recent arrival of Donny Van de Beek from Ajax is also going to bolster the midfield.

Khedira’s age and injury records are both in opposite directions of the way United are looking to go at the moment. OGS favours a youth-oriented policy and the recent injury problems last season for the Red Devils would make a move for a player of Khedira’s injury record a bit strange.

The transfer window is about to close in a few weeks and Khedira being linked to United seems like a case of the end of the window rush mismatch. Only time will tell whether United are seriously interested in Khedira or are just window shopping an option.
