Manchester United: Jason McAteer says Ten Hag will be sacked after Man City performance

Manchester United suffered a miserable 3-1 defeat to arch-rivals Manchester City on Sunday.

This was their second successive Premier League defeat, with the Red Devils also losing 2-1 against Fulham last weekend.

United made an ideal start to the Etihad Stadium encounter as Marcus Rashford scored a sensational goal early in the first half.

But City made a brilliant comeback after the interval as Phil Foden bagged a brace before Erling Braut Haaland struck to seal a fully deserved victory.

The pressure on manager Erik ten Hag is likely to increase, with the latest defeat leaving them with almost no hope of securing a top-four finish this season.

After hearing the terrible United statistics from the match, ex-Liverpool star Jason McAteer claimed the performances will see the Dutch boss sacked.

He told beIN SPORTS: “That’s why you don’t last at the end of the season. I honestly don’t think he’ll be there at the end of the season for next season.

“(Sir) Jim Ratcliffe will see that and it’s just not good enough for a Manchester United team. He did it at Liverpool, now he’s done it at Man City.

“He gets away with it against the lesser teams but against the better sides he just gets found out.”

Ten Hag is likely to get sacked

The 54-year-old joined Manchester United in 2022 and enjoyed an impressive first season at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils won the Carabao Cup, reached the FA Cup final and finished third in the Premier League in his debut campaign.

But United’s levels have significantly dropped this term despite heavy investment on new recruits last summer.

A late resurgence in form to finish in the top four could save Ten Hag’s job, but the latest defeat has now made that almost impossible.

McAteer may well be right about the Dutchman’s future at Old Trafford.
