Manchester United interested in signing two-time Premier League Golden Boot winner: report

Manchester United are understood to be eyeing a shock move for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane this summer, a report from The Athletic claims.

Kane has been one of Europe’s most consistent strikers over the past six years and he has contributed 181 goals from just 278 appearances in all competitions.

Despite his goalscoring exploits, Spurs have not been able to find success in terms of silverware and that has led to suggestions that he may consider a fresh challenge away from north London.

According to The Athletic, United are said to hold an interest in signing the England international but a move would primarily depend on Kane making his intentions clear to leave Spurs.

It is added that the striker has not been included in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s summer wishlist, prepared in February, but United would jump at the chance of landing the 26-year-old.

United have not signed any Spurs player since the transfer of Dimitar Berbatov in 2008 and that has been due to the stubbornness of chairman Daniel Levy to negotiate any deal with the Red Devils.

Based on this, United’s approach for Kane would definitely go in vain in the next transfer window unless the striker makes it clear that he wants to head to Old Trafford.

Anthony Martial has done a credible job leading the line for United this season with 16 goals but it can’t be denied that a player of Kane’s calibre would significantly enhance the club’s title prospects next season.

The two-time Premier League Golden Boot winner could have a similar presence to club favourite Robin van Persie, who played a huge role in United’s 2012/13 title success after the shock move from rivals Arsenal.
