Manchester United have been in contact with the representative of Atletico Madrid winger Thomas Lemar as they explore the possibility of a summer move for the Frenchman.
The 24-year-old is currently in his second season with Atletico following his switch from AS Monaco but has struggled to make an impact with just three goals and six assists from 67 appearances.
As a result, he has been fancied to pursue a fresh challenge to revive his career and ESPN reports that United have made contact with the player’s agent regarding a summer deal.
Lemar had a glowing season with Monaco during the 2016/17 title winning campaign where he contributed 14 goals and 18 assists across all competitions for the Principality club.
Since then, he has failed to replicate the performances despite the change of clubs and United would be taking a massive gamble by signing him in the next transfer window.
Lemar is generally a left-winger by trade but he can also feature on the right wing or in the number 10 role. The Frenchman’s versatility is a plus point but United are better off signing a tried and tested player in the Premier League.
Leicester City’s James Maddison and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish are a couple of options in the affordable range while the club could spend big to land Jadon Sancho, who has become one of the most sought-after players after his move to Borussia Dortmund.
Sancho has been reported to prefer a move to Old Trafford this summer but United would have make a significant bid of around £120m in order to prise him away from the Bundesliga outfit.
