Manchester United have held detailed talks over signing Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund and his Eintracht Frankfurt counterpart Randal Kolo Muani, reports The Athletic.
Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag has prioritised signing a striker this summer, and the Denmark international is seen as the likelier player to join the club at this stage.
Man United football director John Murtough has spoken to both clubs several times about the players.
The Bundesliga club could want around £69 million for Kolo Muani, but Hojlund would be less expensive.
The 20-year-old has signed up with the SEG agency, and his representative and the agency’s co-founder Kees Voss was at Old Trafford on Sunday to watch the game against Fulham.
Ten Hag is also represented by SEG and could have an advantage with Hojlund expecting to leave Atalanta.
He has earned comparisons with Manchester City hitman Erling Braut Haaland and could be Man United’s answer in attack.
“He has very similar characteristics to Haaland, not just his face,” said Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini.
“He is so quick – he is under 11 seconds over 100 metres, and that is not even trying very hard. Considering his height, he has a low centre of gravity and can move his legs very fast.”
Hojlund has bagged eight league goals and two assists in 31 games this term and will only continue to get better.
The former Sturm Graz star scored five goals in two international games during Euro 2024 qualifying in March, including a hat-trick in a 3-1 victory over Finland.
His blistering speed and that of Marcus Rashford would make Man United’s attack more fearsome should a move work out.
The Red Devils should move for Hojlund this summer before his value skyrockets in the coming months.
