Manchester United are the front-runners to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund during the next transfer window, a report from Football Insider has claimed.
Sancho has been in sublime form for Dortmund this term and he has registered a tally of 17 goals and 19 assists from just 35 appearances across all competitions.
He has been fancied to return to England ahead of next season and it appears that United may have a clear run to land his signature with Liverpool pulling out of the race.
According to Football Insider, Dortmund are likely to demand an initial £88m for their attacker and the overall package could be more than £100m with the performance-based add-ons included.
It is added that the cost of the transfer has put Jurgen Klopp’s side out of the running for the winger and United are now in ‘pole position’ to sign the former Manchester City graduate.
The United hierarchy are likely to hand a £150m pre-sales budget to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the summer and more than half of the sum could be spent on landing Sancho’s services.
Apart from the 20-year-old, Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish and Birmingham City’s Jude Bellingham are the other main transfer targets and they should come within the budget following a few player exits.
Phil Jones, Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira are among the squad players, whose futures are being considered while Chris Smalling and Alexis Sanchez could also head through the exit door after their respective loan stints.
All in all, it could be an exciting transfer window for United later in the year but prior to that, the focus will remain on qualifying for the Champions League when the current season resumes after the coronavirus shutdown.
Sancho may have the preference to head to Old Trafford during the summer but the lack of Champions League football could greatly hamper the club’s prospects of signing him.
