Manchester United have identified Burnley defender James Tarkowski as a transfer target. [source: The Athletic].
According to the report, United are targeting Burnley’s James Tarkowski as a cheaper alternative to Dayot Upamecano and Kalidou Koulibaly.
Tarkowski has been a rock for the Clarets since their arrival at the Premier League. He remains away from the spotlight while giving solid performances week in & week out.
The 27-year-old was linked with moves to both Leicester City and West Ham during the summer.
Tarkowski is open to leaving Turf Moor to boost his international ambitions, with the Foxes likely the most possible destination right now.
Tarkowski is a step down from United’s thought of recruits this summer.
Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly was a target for United. The Red Devils fell behind in the chase to sign him to next door neighbors Manchester City.
Though no deal could be struck between City and Napoli, Koulibaly still remains a future option for United.
Dayot Upamecano is United’s dream center-back signing. Man United have been looking for a way to sign him in the summer.
The French defender has a host of clubs behind him, but has remained in Germany for at least one more season.
He has a release clause of €42 million in his current contract which activates next summer.
United desperately need a center-back. Their defensive liabilities have been cruelly exposed for the whole world to see. United’s 6-1 mauling at the hands of Tottenham emphasizes the need for a new defender.
There’s no transfer fee suggested by The Athletic, however, Tarkowski is valued at €50 million by Burnley.
