Manchester United have reportedly earmarked Timo Werner as a potential target to strengthen the centre-forward department during the next transfer window.
Earlier in March, it was suggested that United could prioritise a right-winger and central midfielder this summer but Manchester Evening News reports that the club are also on the hunt for a new striker.
It is added that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are currently using data-driven analytics instead of the regular video analysis in order to find suitable striker targets.
RB Leipzig’s Werner is one of them, who has been picked through the process and it remains to be seen whether the club will make an approach for the German.
United currently have Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Odion Ighalo (on loan), who can feature upfront but they have yet to decide on a permanent deal for the latter.
Meanwhile, Solskjaer has generally played Rashford and Greenwood in the wide attacking positions and this has left Martial to lead the line with barely any competition.
Werner, who has bagged 27 goals and 12 assists for Leipzig this term, would prove the ideal competitor to the Frenchman and he is more than capable of making the position his own.
The German can feature anywhere across the attack but at Leipzig, he has largely played as the main striker. His pace on the counter-attack and ruthless finishing ability would be a perfect fit for the Red Devils.
