Manchester United hoping to wrap up a deal for Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee this week

Manchester United are hoping to close the deal to sign Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee before the end of this week, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

The 23-year-old is now free to have a medical and other things after the Netherlands were dumped out of the European Championship by England in the semi-final last night.

The Man United target was unable to influence the proceeding against the Three Lions, only coming on for his second appearance at Euro 2024 after the 90th minute.

Zirkzee has already agreed a five-year deal to join the Red Devils, while terms and commission for his agent have also been finalised.

Man United are now in advanced talks with Bologna, with the deal nearing completion. Manager Erik ten Hag wants a forward who can complement Rasmus Hojlund, and the Dutchman is convinced the former Bayern Munich star fits the bill.

While he has primarily played as a striker since turning pro, the Man United boss is convinced Zirkzee can excel in other attacking roles.

Omar Berrada begins work as the new chief executive this week, and it appears the former Manchester City chief football operations officer wants to hit the ground running.

Dan Ashworth also recently joined Man United from Newcastle United as their new sporting director.

Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is hiring the best in the business so United can start getting their recruitment right following several years of failure since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

Zirkzee could become their first signing of the summer transfer window, and more quality arrivals should be expected in the coming weeks.
