Manchester United handed fresh injury concern ahead of FA Cup clash

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed that Scott McTominay could miss the FA Cup quarter-final clash with Fulham through injury.

McTominay was part of the 21-man squad which faced Real Beti on Thursday, but he did not get off the bench.

Ten Hag has now revealed that the midfielder wasn’t brought on due to an injury concern.

He told ManUtd.com: “About the last game, that is why I didn’t bring him in, Scott McTominay, [as] he had some complaints.

“We have to see how that will progress in the coming hours and days.”

If McTominay fails to recover, Ten Hag will be short of options in the midfield.

Christian Eriksen is nursing his injury and Casemiro will start his four-game suspension tomorrow.

This would have been a perfect opportunity for McTominay to show the manager what he brings to the team. His role has been reduced since Casemiro started his first United game.

Fred, Marcel Sabitzer and Bruno Fernandes are the only three senior midfielders available.

It is a comeback game for Sabitzer, as he missed the last couple of matches due to an injury.

The Austrian may be deployed in the number six role. He did a fine job filling in during Casemiro’s first suspension.

Kobbie Mainoo and Zidane Iqbal could also get a few minutes. The two starlets have been part of Ten Hag’s squad this season.

The former is rated highly by the Dutchman, making an appearance each in Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Premier League.

Iqbal is yet to feature for United’s first team despite impressing everyone in pre-season games.
