Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson joins Crystal Palace

Manchester United have confirmed the permanent transfer of Dean Henderson to Crystal Palace.

Henderson has signed a five-year contract at Selhurst Park, with Palace paying £15 million up front and a further £5m in add-ons.

He initially joined United’s youth system as an 11-year-old and moved up the ranks to feature over 20 times for the Red Devils.

The club said on Manutd.com: “Everyone at Manchester United would like to express our pride in watching Dean develop into the model professional he has become.

“We send our best wishes to him for the future. We will be monitoring his progress with an eager eye and hope he enjoys a superb career in the game.”

Altay Bayindir set to replace Dean Henderson

Henderson was one of the United players destined to head the exit door this summer.

He had no desire to play as second fiddle to summer signing Andre Onana.

Nottingham Forest were linked with him, but they moved for United States international Matt Turner.

Palace wanted to increase their squad depth. Henderson will now fight with Sam Johnstone for the starting spot between the sticks.

It is an excellent opportunity for the 26-year-old who spent six seasons on loan during his United career.

His most recent loan spell came at Forest, where he made 20 appearances during the 2022-23 campaign.

Erik ten Hag is now left with only two senior goalkeepers in the squad – Onana and Tom Heaton.

Man United are closing in on Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, who could move to Old Trafford for £4.3m.

Bayindir has been Fenerbahce’s first choice since joining from Ankaragucu four years ago.

He would serve as a back-up to Onana and could get game-time in FA Cup and Carabao Cup games.
