Manchester United finally agree deal to sign 25-year-old playmaker for an initial £47m: report

Manchester United have finally reached a transfer agreement with Sporting Lisbon to land the signature of Bruno Fernandes, a report from Goal.com has revealed.

The Portuguese has been heavily touted to join the club since the turn of the year but the deal has been delayed over the past four weeks due to the disagreement over the price tag.

According to Goal.com, United have eventually agreed on a transfer package with Sporting for Fernandes and they will pay an initial £47m (€55m) to sign the 25-year-old playmaker.

The deal could, however, rise to around £68m (€80m) due to two separate add-ons – one (£8.5m) which will be settled in a couple of instalments based on the player’s and team’s performance while the other (£12.5m) will depend on the club going on to win the Premier League and Champions League.

Fernandes is likely to report at the Carrington base for a series of medical tests on Wednesday and he could possibly sign for United in the next 24 hours such that he can make his debut in the weekend’s Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford.

Fernandes’ arrival is expected to fill the void of a creative midfielder in the squad but there could be at least one more signing before the transfer deadline on Friday. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to recruit a new striker with the injury absence of Marcus Rashford and Islam Slimani has emerged as the prime target.

The Algeria international is currently on loan at AS Monaco from Leicester City but the striker has requested the Foxes to terminate his loan contract amid the interest from United, The Mail claims. Still, the move does not make sense, considering the striker is presently out of action due to a muscle injury.
