Manchester United have been heavily tipped to secure the signature of Mario Mandzukic from Juventus when the transfer window reopens in more than two months’ time.
The former Croatia international was strongly linked with a late summer move to Old Trafford but a deal failed to materialise before the transfer deadline approached.
Since then, the 33-year-old has been regularly associated with a winter move to the club and Calciomercato claims that United are seemingly on the cusp of reaching a transfer agreement for the striker.
Furthermore, it is added that the Bianconeri want an initial £8.6m (€10m) fee for the experienced forward and United are likely to match the figure without any objection.
At 33, Mandzukic remains nothing more than a stopgap option for the Red Devils and he nonetheless offers the experience and can act as the target man upfront – something which United have lacked this term.
Mandzukic, who has won four Serie A titles at Juventus, does not possess a great scoring record but he still has the tendency to score in the big games and remains an aerial threat from set pieces.
Marcus Rashford has been the regular choice to lead the line for United this term but the England international has produced a mixed bag in terms of the performances.
The young forward impressed at the weekend against Liverpool with the opening strike but he has lacked the consistency with the goal being his first from open play since the season opener.
