A selection of Manchester United fans reacted to Diogo Dalot’s performance during the club’s 2-1 comeback win over Villarreal in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The Red Devils were second best during the opening half of the encounter. David de Gea saved their blushes with four important saves, a couple to deny Arnaut Danjuma.
Danjuma was up against Dalot on the left wing, and he constantly outmuscled and outpaced the Portuguese.
It seemed only a matter of time before the La Liga club took the lead.
The situation remained the same in the early phase of the second half. Danjuma eventually carved an assist for Paco Alcacer’s 53rd-minute goal, with Dalot being outsmarted once more.
United’s equaliser came out of the blue with Alex Telles’ stunning volley from outside the box right at the hour mark.
It appeared a training ground routine with Bruno Fernandes looping a free-kick towards him.
Cristiano Ronaldo stole the headlines with a 95th-minute winner, but it was not before another double save from De Gea.
Following the game, some fans hit out at the performance of Dalot on Twitter.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka was sent off against Young Boys earlier this month.
The right-back’s suspension was recently extended to two matches, with UEFA citing ‘rough play‘.
Dalot has been working hard on the training pitch for his opportunities, but he was far from impressive last night as he was regularly overlapped by Danjuma with relative ease.
The £25,000-a-week ace will drop to the bench this weekend, with Wan-Bissaka expected to return for the Premier League clash against Everton. He is only suspended for European competitions.
Dalot’s next outing could come up against Atalanta in the Champions League after the international break.
The Serie A outfit are one of the best attacking teams in Europe, and Dalot needs to step up big time.
