Manchester United face competition to sign PSG superstar: should United really sign him?

The chase for the Uruguayan striker is being led by Italian champions Juventus. However, the Old Lady have signed Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid.

Manchester United were linked to Cavani earlier this year in January and April. The Reds are long term admirers of Cavani with numerous stories suggesting United’s interest in signing him.

Cavani is now a free agent after ending his 7-year association with PSG. He played 301 games for the club and scored 200 goals in the process.

He was slated to join Portuguese side Benfica earlier this summer, but the move fell through after differences on the topic of wages.

United are interested in making a move for the Uruguayan.

The evolution of Anthony Martial from a winger under Jose Mourinho to center-forward has worked out well for OGS. But, the club still feels a need to get a player who is natural in that position. United would hugely benefit from a player of Cavani’s skill-set, with his finishing a big asset.

The only out and out striker present in United’s roster is Nigerian International Odion Ighalo. Ighalo is decent but United should do better.

Though, Ighalo has primarily been used as a back-up since his arrival. He does not even set his feet on the pitch in most of the games. His loan deal with United ends in less than 100 days.

The lack of a quality striker can hurt Man United.

The club have been looking for a striker this summer. They faced rejection in the race to sign young hotshot Victor Osimhen and were scared off by the asking fee of Everton striker Dominic Calvert Lewin.

The problem with United’s pursuit of Edinson Cavani is his age.

OGS favours a youth-oriented policy and the 33-year-old forward is an antithesis of that.

However, United need leaders in the dressing room. Cavani could play the part his former teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic played in 2016-17 season for the Red Devils.

Our call intuition suggests United should go for him.
